Quick Healthy Hot Chocolate

This quick healthy chocolate is the perfect wintery treat for the morning or afternoon.

When it’s snowing and chilly out, all I want to do is curl up on my couch
and sip on something warm and cream. Or, when I’m craving chocolate, this is my go-to.

I love hot chocolate, but traditional hot chocolate is made with tons
of sugar and processed cocoa.  And I don’t even think about reaching
for the diet hot chocolate packets – they’re sweetened
with artificial sweeteners and give me a terrible after-taste. PLUS, they don’t even me fill up!

Try my healthified version –
made with un-refined sugar and real cocoa from chocolate beans.

Creamy, energizing and sweet (but not too too sweet!)

Quick, Healthy Almond Hot Chocolate
What You Need:
1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk (or coconut, oat, hemp, macadamia, rice milk, or water)
1 Tbs raw cacao powder
1 Tbs coconut palm sugar (or pure local maple syrup or raw honey)
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat almond milk in a small sauce pan until simmering.
2. Add ingredients and whisk with a fork, or use a manual frother to make it extra creamy. If you don’t have a frother, add ingredients to a blender and blend until frothy! This is the frother I use.
Enjoy!

*Makes 1 serving (1.5 cup mug)

The almond extract gives it a touch of extra pizazz. I sometimes add a pinch of sea salt, too to bring out the sweetness.

For a cute hostess or holiday gift, I love wrapping up some hot chocolate mix and gifting it…

Gift giving really stresses me out,
especially when I have a lot of people in my life that I want to thank.
So making healthy, delicious treats
that are easy and super cute is a win win.

Wrap it up the hot chocolate mix in a nice mug + a little plastic treat bag, twine and a set of pretty teaspoons for a creative touch!

Don’t forget a cute note with the recipe on the back.
