Clean/Organized Closets = Clean/Organized Life!

by admin on February 24, 2011

I was desperate. My closet was in shables, I was having the worst nightmares and head was literally just all over the place. I needed a major winter cleaning.

Who better to call, than my good friend, Julia. She has great, clean, preppy style, her office is immaculate and she just started a new company, called Lemons and Loafers– blending clean food with clean fashion and clean apartments. She leads people on cleanses and helps people clean their apartments- all intended to clean up peoples lives so they can lead healthy, happy and focused lives! Her motto is “If life gives you lemons, the possibilities are endless”. I really needed some lemons and possibilities!

A few weeks before we met, Julia send me some homework:

1. List your three goals e.g. throwing stuff out, making an organized system, whatever.
 2. Spend an hour (only one hour!) looking through before I get there to see if you can get rid of anything.
3. Get rid of it

Before she came, I did spend one hour one night sorting through some things. Ended up making a bag of give-aways but it wasnt until she came and was standing next to me when I REALLY gave stuff away.

Here were the three goals I sent her:
1. Organize! The more organized my closets, the more I want to spend time in my room and the more organized my head will be!
2. Clean!… out the old, so i can bring in the new!
3.Systemize! Create a system, so i can maintain it always looking nice and organized. And, purchase any necessary things to make it look nice and neat!

So, Julia and I made a date last Saturday…six hours later (yes, six!) and TEN (yes, ten!) garbage bags full of clothes later, my room is neat, my closets are organized and my dreams are MUCH sweeter!

First, she made me take everything out of my closets. EVERYTHING.

Then, she made me sort everything in DEFINITELY KEEP, MAYBE KEEP and GIVEAWAY piles. Most of the stuff in the “Maybe Keep” piles she made me throw out because if I was doubting it once, I would probably never wear them. She routed me on when I would toss things into the “Giveaway” pile.

After our sorting, we made a list of everything I needed- from hangers to closet dividers. Then, we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and Container Store. My new obsession- Hangers by Real Simple that are slim and that MATCH!

Here are the picts from before and after:

WOW!

Thanks, Julia for Lemons and Loafer-ing my closets. I can now walk into my walk-in closet, I can now see what clothes I have and I can go to sleep at night knowing that my dreams will be much sweeter!
